# Liverpool: Reds make contact to sign Milan Skriniar

**[Liverpool](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-news/) have made contact to sign Inter Milan defender [Milan Skriniar](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/milan-skriniar/) this month, according to reports.**

### The Lowdown: Open to negotiations

The Slovakian has now entered the final [six months](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/inter-mailand/vertragsende/verein/46) of his deal at the San Siro, meaning that he is able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with potential suitors, and there are clubs lining up at his door to land him on a free transfer.

[Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) sides Manchester City, Chelsea, Newcastle and Manchester United have all been credited with an [interest](https://www.90min.com/posts/inter-braced-for-january-interest-in-milan-skriniar) in the centre-back, though it sounds like Jurgen Klopp is keen to hijack a move and instead bring him to Anfield.

### The Latest: Liverpool considering Skriniar

According to [90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/inter-braced-for-january-interest-in-milan-skriniar), the Reds have ‘reached out’ to Inter to ‘discuss the possibility’ of Skriniar moving to Merseyside this window.

Simone Inzaghi’s outfit ‘want to keep’ the 27-year-old, but ‘would consider parting ways’ should he refuse to put pen to paper on fresh terms.

January offers could potentially ‘spark a bidding war’ between the interested clubs, though ultimately it will be down to the player himself whether he decides to leave now or wait until the summer.

### The Verdict: Van Dijk replacement

Liverpool favourite Virgil Van Dijk has recently been [ruled out](https://www.bt.com/sport/football/premier-league/liverpool-centre-back-virgil-van-dijk-out-for-more-than-a-month-#:~:text=Liverpool%20centre%2Dback%20Virgil%20van,Chelsea%20live%20on%20BT%20Sport) of action for more than a month with a hamstring injury so Skriniar would be the perfect temporary replacement.

The Serie A colossus has an impressive [91.9%](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/302918/Show/Milan-Skriniar) pass success rate, showing that he’s calm and collected playing out from the back, but also poses a threat in the final third having posted [15](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/milan-skriniar/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/204069) goal contributions during his time at Inter.

Skriniar is the captain of Slovakia so holds excellent leadership qualities in the same way Van Dijk does, and having been [hailed](https://twitter.com/carlogarganese/status/1442964386759458816?s=46&t=SsjroS7jDH6FXrrDOH4EZg) a ‘monster’ by [Carlo Garganese](https://twitter.com/carlogarganese), he’s the ideal signing for FSG.
