# Liverpool: Naby Keita ruled out of Southampton clash

**Liverpool’s early season tale of injury woe continues with news regarding one of the club’s midfielders ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League clash against Southampton at St Mary’s.**

[The club’s official website](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/360891-naby-keita-injury-latest-jurgen-klopp) confirmed that midfielder Naby Keita is definitely ruled out of the trip to the south coast after picking up a muscle strain prior to the UEFA Super Cup clash against Chelsea on Wednesday.

Even with the Premier League season only a week old, Liverpool have already seen multiple players suffering injuries recently.

Young defender Yasser Larouci was the recipient of a [shocking challenge in pre-season from Sevilla’s Joris Gnagnon](https://www.irishmirror.ie/sport/soccer/soccer-news/breaking-liverpools-yasser-larouci-suffers-18500501), although the teenager might not feature much for the first team anyway as he is [still in the Reds’ under-23 squad](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/yasser-larouci/profil/spieler/554251).

Nathaniel Clyne has been ruled out for several months after [rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/358081-nathaniel-clyne-injury-update) last month.

Goalkeeper Alisson was added to the growing injury list last week after [incurring a calf injury in the 4-1 win over Norwich](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/360305-alisson-becker-calf-injury-update-latest) and he is unlikely to feature until late September at the earliest, according to [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/matches-liverpool-goalkeeper-alisson-set-18922353).

Keita, meanwhile, had [three different spells out injured last season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/naby-keita/verletzungen/spieler/302215) and [flew home from the Africa Cup of Nations in early July for a medical assessment in Liverpool](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/48828030) before his latest knock.

Also, Adrian is [hopeful](https://twitter.com/LFC/status/1162364293653946373) of being fit to start tomorrow against Southampton.

The availability of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum, James Milner, Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at least ensures that Klopp has [plenty of midfield options](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/startseite/verein/31) in Keita’s absence.

Liverpool’s injury list is worryingly long as it stands – and they will have a minimum of 47 more matches to play this season between the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Club World Cup, a punishing schedule which could contribute to even further injury problems down the line.
