# Liverpool: Neil Jones provides Xherdan Shaqiri update

**Xherdan Shaqiri’s Liverpool future could be decided this week, with reliable journalist Neil Jones providing a key update on his future.**

### The Lowdown: Shaqiri set to leave Liverpool

Shaqiri’s Reds career has been an up-and-down one, with the Swiss producing moments of quality (not least the [two-goal salvo](https://www.goal.com/en-za/news/supersub-shaqiri-the-bargain-of-the-season-as-swiss-star/6jf7ivmrmqkc1bxdqtupd0r0i) against Manchester United in 2018) but rarely becoming a key player at the club despite his weekly wage of [£86,000](https://salarysport.com/football/player/xherdan-shaqiri/).

The 29-year-old is [expected to move on](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9666427/Xherdan-Shaqiri-quit-Liverpool-Lazio-Euro-2020-Maurizio-Sarri-takes-over.html) before the end of the summer transfer window, with Jurgen Klopp not seeing a future for him at Anfield.

### The Latest: Jones provides latest

### The Verdict: Time to move on

Shaqiri is a capable footballer with [bags of experience](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/86792), but now seems like the right time for him to go and enjoy a fresh challenge. In Harvey Elliott, who [dazzled](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56893266) on loan at Blackburn last season, Liverpool potentially have a tailor-made replacement ready to come in and fill the void left by the [96-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/profil/spieler/86792) Switzerland international.

Shaqiri’s constant [inability to stay fit](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/xherdan-shaqiri/verletzungen/spieler/86792) became increasingly problematic – the hope is that Elliott will be available more often – and with his 30th birthday approaching, his time at Liverpool has reached its natural conclusion.

Having started just [seven league games](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/76304/History/Xherdan-Shaqiri) over the past two seasons, the writing has frankly been on the wall for some time for the Swiss winger.
