# Liverpool: Mohamed Salah in danger of missing start of next season

**Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah is in danger of missing the start of next season as he may be participating in the 2021 summer Olympics.**

### Salah absent

The Reds have started their Premier League title defence in the way that they would have wanted, sitting [top](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) of the standings after their first seven games.

Salah has been a big part of their campaign already, scoring a [hat-trick](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54134753) against Leeds during their opening fixture and adding a brace during their shocking [7-2](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54313270) loss to Aston Villa, which led to Jurgen Klopp calling him outstanding (via [Football365](https://www.football365.com/news/liverpool-jurgen-klopp-press-conference-mo-salah-everton)).

Speaking during his press conference (cited by [Read Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2020/11/04/liverpool-blow-mo-salah-egypt-olympics-2021/)), Egypt U23s coach Shawky Gharib confirmed that the upcoming Olympic Games in Japan would see a strong Egypt squad.

“The team’s technical staff and the Egyptian Football Association have the desire to call up Mohamed Salah for the Olympics,” he said.

“Salah is a world-class player and I hope that he will be able to play with us in the Olympics. When you have such a player in your team, the objectives of the team would be different.”

### Transfer Tavern take

Salah’s influence in this Liverpool team is key and the ‘Egyptian King’ has been a breath of fresh air ever since his £34m move from Roma back in 2017.

Scoring [103](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-salah/alletore/spieler/148455) goals from [164](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-salah/alletore/spieler/148455) appearances is enough evidence to back this up, winning back-to-back Premier League Golden Boot awards in 2018 and 2019 (via the [club’s official website](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/349839-mohamed-salah-sadio-mane-premier-league-golden-boot)).

What may reassure Liverpool fans is that Jurgen Klopp has managed to adapt his tactical approach without his key personnel on occasions, which is why they have grown as a club in recent years.

While it may be a slight concern, the Reds will have to plan ahead and ensure, once again, that they can cope without him.
