# Liverpool: Noel Whelan claims club will be looking at Issa Diop

**Noel Whelan has claimed that Liverpool, among a list of other clubs, will be looking at signing Issa Diop from West Ham United this month.**

David Moyes’ team have [reportedly](https://www.footballinsider247.com/west-ham-green-light-diop-exit-this-month/) given the green light for the central defender to leave the East London club on loan in this month’s transfer window.

Speaking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/whelan-exclusive-liverpool-tipped-to-sign-west-ham-star-amid-big-development/), Whelan has claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s men will be one of a number of teams looking at signing the 24-year-old on loan before the end of January:

*“I’m sure there’d be clubs like Liverpool looking at him.*

*“We’ve already seen (Fikayo) Tomori looking to get away from Chelsea he’s already left for AC Milan and Diop’s another player that is a big name, a big player and if he gets the right club, he could be very important to them.*

*“Look at Liverpool, they looked very, very average against Burnley on Thursday night, there’s no doubt about that, there’s a lot of players out of form right now for Liverpool.”*

### Diop would be a smart signing by Liverpool

Given that the January transfer window is almost over, it would be a smart move for the Anfield faithful to get Diop in as soon as possible.

With Fabinho and Jordan Henderson having to play as makeshift centre-backs in recent games, coupled up with a poor run of form, it is now the ideal time for the Reds to bring in Diop to provide some much-needed cover with the long-term injuries to Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez.

A man who knows the Premier League well having played in no fewer than 69 matches in the top flight in total over the last three consecutive terms ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/issa-diop/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/272622/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=GB1&pos=&trainer_id=)), the Frenchman may just be the player to save LFC’s season.
