# Liverpool: Reds interested in signing Frenkie de Jong

**[Liverpool](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-news/) are interested in making a move for gifted Netherlands and Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong, according to a new transfer rumour.**

### The Lowdown: De Jong on Netherlands duty

The 25-year-old is currently at the [2022 World Cup](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/world-cup-2022/) with Holland, starting in the middle of the park in their 2-0 victory over Senegal earlier this week.

De Jong highlighted his technical ability with an inch-perfect assist for Cody Gakpo, whipping in a cross that the attacker headed home to open the scoring.

The midfielder has been [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/manchester-united-premier-league-frenkie-de-jong-transfer-news-updates/) with a move to the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) numerous times recently, with Manchester United in the mix, but it looks as though Liverpool could be ready to battle them.

### The Latest: Liverpool keen on signing

According to a [report](https://www.fichajes.net/noticias/liverpool-mete-carrera-frenkie-jong-20221125.html) from Spain, the Reds are in the race to acquire De Jong’s signature, with his future at Barca not necessarily secure.

Liverpool reportedly want to sign a top-class midfielder who can act as a long-term replacement for the likes of Thiago, Jordan Henderson and James Milner, and the Dutchman is seen as a strong contender to fill that void.

### The Verdict: Would be the perfect addition

He is hugely press-resistant in possession, using the ball superbly in tight spaces and enjoying a [90.5% pass completion rate](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/279423/Show/Frenkie-de-Jong) across 13 [La Liga](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/la-liga-news/) appearances this season – something that Thiago is famed for.
