# Liverpool: Reds ‘first to move’ for Perr Schuurs

**[Liverpool](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-news/) have reignited their interest in Torino centre-back Perr Schuurs ahead of a potential summer move, according to a fresh transfer rumour.**

### The Lowdown: Liverpool linked with Schuurs

The Reds could look to sign a new central defender at the end of the season, with fresh legs needed at a time when Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip are both 31 years of age.

One player who was [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-news/liverpool-premier-league-perr-schuurs-transfer-news-updates/) with a move to Anfield in the past is Schuurs, who remarkably ranks in the [99th](https://fbref.com/en/players/e613313c/Perr-Schuurs) percentile amongst centre-backs for assisting goals, as well as stacking up highly for tackles and aerial duels.

The 23-year-old was initially eyed up during his Ajax days but he is now plying his trade at Torino, where he has [started 15 Serie A matches](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/362732/Show/Perr-Schuurs) this season.

### The Latest: New update emerges

According to [*Tuttosport*](https://www.tuttosport.com/) \[via [*Sport Witness*](https://sportwitness.co.uk/liverpool-first-to-move-for-signing-club-plan-for-summer-auction-target-is-to-earn-e50m/)\], Liverpool are the ‘first to move’ for Schuurs ahead of a possible summer transfer, with a [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) auction potentially on the cards.

Torino are thought to value the Dutchman at €50million (£44m) and would be willing to sell him at the end of the season.

### The Verdict: Strong centre-back option

Schuurs could be an excellent option for Liverpool this summer, with the defender actually [having a trial](https://www.90min.com/posts/perr-schuurs-things-to-know-dutch-defender) at Anfield in 2017, even then being [compared](https://www.90min.com/posts/perr-schuurs-things-to-know-dutch-defender) to Van Dijk.

The towering [6 foot 3](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/362732/Show/Perr-Schuurs) Torino man has averaged [3.1 clearances](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/362732/Show/Perr-Schuurs), 2.1 aerial wins and 1.7 tackles per game in Serie A this season, highlighting his all-round defensive dominance, and he is not yet at his peak.

Schuurs could initially come in as more of a squad player, potentially replacing Joe Gomez if he leaves, as has been [rumoured](https://anfieldwatch.co.uk/joe-gomez-wants-liverpool-exit-amid-interest-from-spus-leicester-newcastle-west-ham/), before eventually replacing Van Dijk when his best years are behind him.
