# Liverpool: Teun Koopmeiners was scouted ‘multiple times’

**[Liverpool](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-news/) ‘have sent scouts’ to watch Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners but are unlikely to sign him this month, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.**

### The Lowdown: Koopmeiner a Reds target?

Endless players have been [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-news/liverpool-moises-caicedo-brighton-latest-transfer-news-rumours/) with being the saviour of the Reds’ current midfield woes, following constant poor performances in that area of the pitch.

Recent rumours regarding a potential move for Koopmeiners have emerged, with the 24-year-old making [five appearances](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/343308/Show/Teun-Koopmeiners) for the Netherlands at the 2022 [World Cup](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/world-cup-2022/), though [reports](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-news/january-transfer-news-koopmeiners-atalanta-premier-league/) have suggested Atalanta’s sale of Ruslan Malinovskyi to Marseille complicates matters.

Koopmeiners has been a key man for Atalanta this season, starting [16 matches](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/343308/Show/Teun-Koopmeiners) in Serie A and scoring five times.

### The Latest: Romano provides update

Writing for [*Caught Offside*](https://www.caughtoffside.com/2023/01/10/liverpool-transfer-news-teun-koopmeiners-scouted/), Romano claimed that the Dutchman has been tracked by Liverpool but is unlikely to make the move currently:

> “Honestly, Atalanta have never received any approaches for Teun Koopmeiners in January. It’s a quiet situation and I don’t see them selling another midfielder after Ruslan Malinovskyi to Marseille.
>
> “Rumours are there because Liverpool sent their scouts to monitor him multiple times in the last year, but things are quiet on the Koopmeiners deal, as of now.”

### The Verdict: Would be a great option

Koopmeiners is an impressive footballer who was [described](https://twitter.com/JPW_NBCSports/status/1601323169381781505?s=20&t=DhWWRYVjW9xJJFSufN4V7w) as ‘amazing’ in Qatar by NBC journalist Joe Prince-Wright, following his[memorable short free-kick](https://football-italia.net/world-cup-koopmeiners-genius-free-kick-creates-equaliser-in-netherlands-argentina/) that allowed Wout Weghorst to equalise in stoppage time against Argentina.

The Atalanta man would add a mix to defensive resilience and attacking class to Liverpool’s midfield, having averaged [two tackles](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/343308/Show/Teun-Koopmeiners) per game in Qatar and 1.6 key passes per match in Serie A this season.

Sadly, it looks as though Koopemeiners is a no-go for the time being, but if the situation changes, he could be an ideal signing in the summer transfer window.
