# Liverpool: Reds eyeing Timo Werner

**Liverpool are set to keep extensive tabs on RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner this season, and could potentially move for the German in January, via [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-liverpool-line-up-transfer-missions-for-attacker-with-27m-release-clause/).**

The Reds have been long-standing admirers of the 23-year-old, who has recently penned a new deal with his current employers, committing himself to the club until 2023.

Werner’s new four-year deal does include a £27m release clause, however, which Liverpool will probably view as a reasonable fee to part with should they make a move for the 5ft 11 pace-merchant next year.

Jurgen Klopp didn’t add any senior outfield players to his squad throughout the summer, and is heavily reliant on his ever-present front-three – Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. [Divock Origi penned a new long-term deal](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/355891-divock-origi-signs-new-liverpool-contract-confirmed) at Anfield this summer, but is merely viewed as a backup to the aforementioned superstars.

This makes the addition of another top-quality forward a necessity next year, with Werner seemingly fitting that bill should he remain in form this season. The German has gotten off to the perfect start for Leipzig in the Bundesliga, [scoring five goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/timo-werner/profil/spieler/170527) in three league games, and looks set to enjoy another successful season this time out.

Werner has now bagged [66 goals and 28 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/timo-werner/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/170527) in 118 appearances for Leipzig since joining the club from Stuttgart in 2016, showing just what an exceptional talent he is.

Although there was [plenty of talk](https://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/liverpool/news/report-liverpool-very-close-to-werner-deal_356506.html) surrounding Werner’s possible move to Liverpool this summer, with Jurgen Klopp reluctant to change a winning formula at Anfield, it is understandable why they didn’t end up making a move for the attacker.

However, with so much faith rightfully placed on the shoulders of the Reds’ flawless front-three, it would perhaps be wise to bring in at least one other striking option to ensure freshness remains and success continues to flow steadily on the red side of Merseyside.
