# Liverpool: Reds join the race to sign Manuel Locatelli

**Liverpool have reportedly joined the race to sign Italy and Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli in the summer transfer window.**

### The Lowdown: Locatelli shines at the Euros

Italy deservedly won Euro 2020 earlier this month, following a final victory over England and dominant performances throughout the tournament.

Locatelli played his part in the *Azzurri*‘s success, scoring twice in his country’s 3-0 win over Switzerland in the group stages.

The 23-year-old looked a class act in the middle of the park whenever he did play and a summer exit from Sassuolo looks on the cards, with Juventus [strongly linked](https://www.90min.com/posts/juventus-transfer-news-closing-in-manuel-locatelli-signing) with a move for him.

### The Latest: Liverpool linked with move

According to [*Gazzetta dello Sport*](https://www.gazzetta.it/) \[via [*LFC Transfer Room*](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom/status/1420941897372217348?s=20) on Twitter\], however, Liverpool are now in the race to sign Locatelli.

The Reds are watching the Juventus situation closely, with Arsenal also linked with a move for the midfielder.

### The Verdict: Could be a great signing

Locatelli looked an excellent prospect at the Euros and he could be an ideal player to come in and fill the Gini Wijnaldum-shaped void in the middle of the park.

At 23, he would represent a long-term signing, but he is also experienced enough to be a key man from the off, already [winning 15 caps](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manuel-locatelli/profil/spieler/265088) for Italy.

Locatelli averaged [2.4 tackles and 1.5 interceptions](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/273539/Show/Manuel-Locatelli) per game in Serie A last season – in comparison, Wijnaldjum averaged just [0.6 and 0.7](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/33568/Show/Georginio-Wijnaldum), respectively.
