# Liverpool ‘increasingly confident’ of signing Mason Mount

**[Liverpool](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-transfer-rumours/) are ‘increasingly confident’ of sealing the signing of Chelsea and England midfielder [Mason Mount](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/mason-mount/) this summer, reports talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent [Alex Crook](https://twitter.com/alex_crook?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor).**

### The Lowdown: Mount’s future up in the air

The 24-year-old’s future has been a big talking point of late, with the Blues failing to offer him the new deal he wants ahead of his current contract [expiring](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mason-mount/profil/spieler/346483) next year.

Mount has been continually [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-news/liverpool-reds-premier-league-mason-mount-chelsea-transfer-news-updates/) with a summer move to Liverpool, with [Jurgen Klopp](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/jurgen-klopp/) possibly viewing him as a part of his much-needed midfield rebuild.

Now, a new update has emerged – one that suggests the Reds could really get their man.

### The Latest: Liverpool confident over move

According to [*talkSPORT*](https://talksport.com/football/1348899/transfer-notebook-liverpool-chelsea-mason-mount-man-utd-frenkie-de-jong/)‘s Crook, Liverpool are now ‘increasingly confident’ of acquiring Mount’s signature, with his contract talks at Chelsea at a ‘standstill’.

Some sources even claim the move is ‘highly likely’, further suggesting that he could become a Reds player.

### The Verdict: Snap him up, Reds

Mount may not be having his best season in a Chelsea shirt, losing his place recently and only scoring [three goals](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/343346/Show/Mason-Mount) in 23 league outings, but he could be such a shrewd signing by Liverpool.

The [36-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mason-mount/profil/spieler/346483) England international possesses the work ethic, technical ability and tactical nous to fit seamlessly into Klopp’s midfield, with Jose Mourinho once [calling](https://metro.co.uk/2021/06/05/jose-mourinho-praises-very-very-intelligent-mason-mount-who-has-to-thank-frank-lampard-for-chelsea-rise-14724480/) him a ‘very, very intelligent’ player.

Mount could fit nicely into the left-sided No.8 role in Liverpool’s midfield, but his [versatility](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/343346/Show/Mason-Mount) would also allow him to thrive as a No.10 at times, or even in a wide area.

While the Chelsea man can be a [divisive](https://www.yardbarker.com/soccer/articles/watch_what_mason_mount_actually_does_for_those_who_are_too_blind_to_see_it/s1_15956_38195813) figure at times, with some wondering what he actually does during a game, he could become a similar player to Gini Wijnaldum at Anfield, proving to be a key cog in the machine without earning the superstar recognition of some of his teammates.
