# Liverpool target Sofyan Amrabat could be set to leave Fiorentina

**[Liverpool](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-news/) target Sofyan Amrabat could be set to leave Fiorentina before the deadline with Barcelona in talks, according to Fabrizio Romano.**

### **The Lowdown: Amrabat interest**

The 26-year-old flew into the headlines after starring in Morocco’s World Cup semi-final run in Qatar, playing [every](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sofyan-amrabat/nationalmannschaft/spieler/287579/verein_id/3575/plus/0?hauptwettbewerb=WM&wettbewerb_id=&trainer_id=&start=Mar+28%2C+2015&ende=Jan+31%2C+2023&nurEinsatz=0) minute of the Atlas Lions’ seven games as they captured everyone’s attention on the world stage.

Amrabat was a standout in midfield and was recognised by Sky Sports, as he was named in their [team of the tournament](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12098/12768686/world-cup-team-of-the-tournament-lionel-messi-kylian-mbappe-antoine-griezmann-harry-maguire#:~:text=NEC%20Nijmegen-,World%20Cup%20team%20of%20the%20tournament%3A%20Lionel%20Messi%2C%20Kylian,Mbappe%2C%20Antoine%20Griezmann%2C%20Harry%20Maguire&text=Qatar%202022%20has%20delivered%20goals,Argentina%20to%20World%20Cup%20immortality.).

He’s been courted by [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) sides, but a switch to Barcelona now seems the most likely option, with [The Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1728536/Liverpool-Barcelona-Sofyan-Amrabat-Fiorentina-Premier-League-transfer-news-World-Cup) reporting the Liverpool target is set for a deadline-day move amid links to the Reds.

### **The Latest: Romano update**

Speaking on his [YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WW4_SPEO54A&ab_channel=FabrizioRomano) channel, Romano revealed that the Moroccan’s future is certainly one to keep an eye on before the deadline, revealing Amrabat even missed training to force through a move amid talks taking place with the Catalans, saying:

“Keep an eye on Sofyan Amrabat. Barcelona bid €4m for the loan and €37m \[for a\] potential buy option – not mandatory. Barcelona can’t do any obligation to buy for the Financial Fair Play. \[The offer\] was turned down by Fiorentina; Fiorentina said no.

“But Amrabat didn’t go to training, so he’s trying to force his move, he wants to find a top club for the final hours of the market, let’s see what happens with Barcelona, but this is one to follow, for sure.”

### **The Verdict: Right for Liverpool?**

Jurgen Klopp’s side have struggled desperately this season with them currently ninth in the league and out of the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, potentially leaving the door open to a last-minute charge to turn the tide on their campaign.

Midfield has been one of the positions that the Reds have suffered dearest, with Fabinho’s poor form dubbed a symbol of Liverpool’s drop-off by [The Guardian’s](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/nov/05/out-of-gas-fabinho-has-become-a-symbol-of-liverpools-decline) Sachin Nakrani, whilst Jordan Henderson is only ranked 17th-highest for average rating for Liverpool in the league this season (via [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/26/Show/England-Liverpool)).

We think Amrabat would prove a smart addition in the engine room should the Reds launch a move at the 11th hour, with Sky Sports reporter [Melissa Reddy](https://twitter.com/MelissaReddy_/status/1603125537412681728) dubbing him “immense” in the World Cup.

A summer move may be more likely, but with the Barcelona rumours circling ahead of the deadline – which is also 11pm UK time in Spain – Liverpool may be hoping a move collapses if they plan to reignite their reported interest at the end of the season.

With him in the top 5% amongst midfielders for progressive passes over the past year (via [FBref](https://fbref.com/en/players/5a2cb25d/Sofyan-Amrabat)), he could be a brave creative player who may help Cody Gakpo finally kickstart his Reds career with him [yet](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/cody-gakpo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/434675/plus/0?saison=&verein=31&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) to score or assist following his [£35m](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/dec/28/liverpool-complete-35m-signing-of-world-cup-star-cody-gakpo) move.
