# Liverpool: These fans dismiss talk of Steven Gerrard as Jurgen Klopp’s successor

**Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher told [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/jamie-carragher-tips-steven-gerrard-20578765) that he feels Rangers manager and ex-Reds captain Steven Gerrard would be a worthy successor to Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.**

[The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/jamie-carragher-tips-steven-gerrard-20578765) reported quotes from Carragher in which he said that his former team-mate could well end up earning the Liverpool manager’s job through his achievements rather than his [reputation as a player](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/liverpool/11489728/Best-Liverpool-players-ever-the-top-50.html), a story that was shared by [@AnfieldWatch](https://twitter.com/AnfieldWatch/status/1184190185019465728?prefetchTimestamp=1571212621822) on Twitter.

Gerrard finished [second in the Scottish Premiership](https://www.skysports.com/scottish-premier-table/2018) with Rangers last season, having [twice beaten champions Celtic](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/rangers-fc/bilanzdetail/verein/124/wettbewerb_id//gegner_id/371/saison_id//heim_gast//datum_von/-/datum_bis/-/day/0/land_id/0), and his team currently [lead the way in the division after eight games](https://www.skysports.com/scottish-premier-table).

He has also guided the ‘Gers into the Europa League group stage in [both of his seasons in charge](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/glasgow-rangers/pokalhistorie/verein/124), having taken the job in the summer of 2018, with the club having been [absent from European group stage participation since 2010/11](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/glasgow-rangers/pokalhistorie/verein/124) before his arrival.

However, with Klopp having [won the Champions League](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/jun/01/tottenham-liverpool-champions-league-final-match-report) and [finished second in the Premier League](https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-table/2018) at Liverpool last season, as well as having them [eight points clear in the league currently](https://www.premierleague.com/tables?co=1&se=210&ha=-1) and being [contracted to the club until 2022](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jurgen-klopp/profil/trainer/118), these Reds fans on Twitter feel that Carragher may be jumping the gun in talking of Gerrard taking over from Klopp:

> So much can happen…. klopp could be offered an amount he can’t refuse…. Liverpool could be going for a 3rd CL title making klopp want to stay etc… all this talk and we’re 8-0 is so stupid
