# Liverpool: Fans go wild over Denis Zakaria update

**Flocking to Twitter, many Liverpool fans have gone wild over an update by reliable reporter Fabrizio Romano involving Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.**

The Reds have thoroughly impressed throughout 2021/2022 so far, flying high [near the top of the Premier League table](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) and staying well in the title race.

Jurgen Klopp’s side also broke a Champions League record mid-week having become the first ever English side to win all six of their group games ([The Indian Express](https://indianexpress.com/article/sports/football/uefa-champions-league-2021-22-liverpool-ajax-group-stage-perfect-record-7661705/)).

However, supporters will be eager to see who the club and Fenway Sports Group can bring in to strengthen their options given how light they could become in some areas – as evident by their plethora of injury woes last season.

Romano, sharing the latest transfer news out of Anfield, claims Liverpool have ‘asked for information’ on Switzerland international ace Zakaria ([Twitter](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1468180996738662402)).

Approaching the player’s representative Hasan Cetinkaya, the 25-year-old is apparently in high demand with his contract set to expire in 2022 – attracting interest from the Reds, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Barcelona.

### Fans go wild…

As they eye a pre-contract January swoop for Zakaria with an enquiry already made, you can understand why supporters have got excited on Twitter.

The [40-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denis-zakaria/nationalmannschaft/spieler/334526) gem, drawing comparisons [with Toni Kroos](https://www.planetfootball.com/quick-reads/he-reminds-me-of-kroos-seven-quotes-about-liverpool-target-denis-zakaria/) in the past, could add real dynamism and composure to Klopp’s midfield as an alternative to mainstay Fabinho.

Averaging an impressive [89.2% pass accuracy](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/252419/History/Denis-Zakaria) domestically this season, a higher number than [any Liverpool midfielder](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/26/Show/England-Liverpool) with more than five starts, he’s also managed more tackles per match in that time ([1.8](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/252419/History/Denis-Zakaria)) than the likes of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Thiago ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/26/Show/England-Liverpool)).

On a potential free deal or even for a cheap January fee as Monchengladbach may be forced to sell on a cut price, it would seem he’s certainly worth considering.
