# Liverpool ‘monitoring’ former academy star ahead of potential shock Anfield reunion

[Liverpool](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-transfer-rumours/) could have an opportunity to bring a familiar face back to Anfield, with one of their former stars reportedly growing frustrated with life at Real Madrid.

The Reds have struggled to find a convincing long-term solution in his position since his departure, making the latest developments an intriguing prospect for [under-pressure Andoni Iraola](https://walkon.com/blog/the-premier-league-manager-sack-race-the-top-5-favourites-to-lose-their-jobs-7/) and the club’s recruitment team.

However, bringing him home would be far from straightforward, with questions surrounding his wages, as well as how supporters would react to a potential reunion.

## **Liverpool Eye Stunning Trent Alexander-Arnold Return**

[According to TEAMtalk](https://www.teamtalk.com/liverpool/trent-alexander-arnold-real-madrid-future-liverpool-circle), Liverpool are among several clubs monitoring Trent Alexander-Arnold’s situation at Real Madrid, with the England international increasingly concerned about his lack of regular first-team football.

The right-back left Anfield in 2025 to join the Spanish giants, ending a long association with his boyhood club. His move was expected to represent the next stage of an outstanding career, but his time in Madrid has not gone entirely to plan.

Alexander-Arnold managed only 14 starts last season and has made just three starts in the current campaign, according to TEAMtalk. His latest frustration came when Real Madrid faced Sevilla, with manager Jose Mourinho opting to deploy Federico Valverde at right-back despite Alexander-Arnold being available.

The former Liverpool star was also substituted after just 52 minutes against Villarreal, adding to concerns over his standing within the squad.

For Liverpool, the situation presents a potential opportunity to address a position that has remained under scrutiny since his departure. Alexander-Arnold’s exceptional passing range, creativity and ability to influence matches from deep made him a key figure during his time at Anfield.

His familiarity with the club’s environment could also help him settle quickly should a return become possible.

Nevertheless, Liverpool would need to weigh up the financial implications and whether bringing back a player who chose to leave would represent the right decision for the squad.

## **Real Madrid Could Consider an Offer**

TEAMtalk reports that Real Madrid are not actively looking to push Alexander-Arnold out of the club, although sources suggest they could consider a reasonable offer if his situation fails to improve.

His salary, agreed when he joined the Spanish side in 2025, could prove a significant obstacle for any interested club.

Liverpool would also face competition, with Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Bayern Munich reportedly keeping tabs on developments.

For now, Alexander-Arnold’s priority is understood to be securing a regular place in Madrid’s starting XI. A return to Merseyside therefore remains a possibility rather than an imminent transfer.

From Liverpool’s perspective, the opportunity to reunite with one of their most gifted academy graduates could be tempting. But the club must decide whether the circumstances, cost and wider implications make a second spell at Anfield a realistic option.
