# Southampton: Saints want Terem Moffi deal done ‘quickly’

**[Southampton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/southampton-fc-news/) are reportedly looking to get a deal done ‘quickly’ to sign Lorient striker Terem Moffi ahead of the January transfer window.**

### The Lowdown: Striker needed

The Saints were pretty toothless in attack in their 3-1 loss at home to Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League on Boxing Day, a result that left them sitting at the [bottom](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) of the table.

They have only managed to score a mere 14 goals in their opening 16 games, the [fifth-fewest](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) in the division, and their top scorer is Che Adams with [four](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/18/Show/England-Southampton) goals.

### The Latest: Moffi interest

Co-writing in his latest piece for [90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/southampton-eyeing-january-deal-for-lorient-striker-terem-moffi), [transfer expert Graeme Bailey](https://twitter.com/GraemeBailey) has revealed that Nathan Jones’ side are ‘looking to get a deal done quickly’ for Moffi ahead of January, and are actively ‘pursuing’ a deal.

They have ‘taken a liking’ to Moffi, as Jones has made finding a reliable source of goals a top priority.

### The Verdict: Get it done

The St. Mary’s outfit are in desperate need of a goalscorer to get them out of trouble, and Moffi certainly fits the bill.

Hailed as a ‘[ridiculously good](https://twitter.com/ZachLowy/status/1436406158357581825)‘ striker by journalist Zach Lowy, he boasts ten goals in his opening 15 Ligue 1 games this season, and has previously managed 22 in the division over the last two campaigns ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/terem-moffi/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/538874/plus/0?saison=&verein=1158&liga=&wettbewerb=FR1&pos=&trainer_id=)).

[Moffi](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/400505/Show/Terem-Moffi) is currently out-performing any [Southampton player](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/18/Show/England-Southampton) in their respective domestic leagues (Whoscored), and is also averaging more shots and dribbles per match than any Saints star.

Nonetheless, at 23 years of age, the Nigeria international still has a high ceiling, and the Saints would do well to secure his services for the next few seasons.
