# Tottenham set sights on Luciano Spalletti as new manager

**[Tottenham Hotspur](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/) have set their sights on Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti to replace[Antonio Conte](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/antonio-conte/), according to a report.**

### The Lowdown: Time up for Conte?

Conte’s current deal with Tottenham [expires](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antonio-conte/profil/trainer/3517) this summer, and while the club have previously held [talks](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-antonio-conte-new-contract-talks-b1046668.html) with the Italian about a new contract, there have been no recent signs of any progress.

Ben Jacobs told [TEAMtalk](https://www.teamtalk.com/tottenham-hotspur/spurs-manager-exclusive-current-conte-stance-revealed-lowdown-pochettino-return-one-big-name-ruled-out) that former manager Mauricio Pochettino is being considered for a second stint at the club, while he also claimed that Brighton & Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi could be an option.

### The Latest: Spalletti enters the frame

According to a [report](https://www.ilmattino.it/sport/sscnapoli/spalletti_contratto_stipendio_napoli_ultime_notizie_oggi-7249997.html) from Il Mattino, Spurs have set their sights on Spalletti after impressing during his time with Napoli, leading them to the [summit](https://www.skysports.com/serie-a-table) of the Serie A table.

However, they may face competition for his signature, given that Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are also linked with the Italian, while he could still be tempted to remain as Napoli manager.

### The Verdict: Right man for the job?

[Hailed](https://twitter.com/Minarzouki/status/1628135017141440542?s=20) as a ‘genius’ by sections of the media, the 63-year-old looks set to win Napoli’s first Serie A title [since](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ssc-neapel/erfolge/verein/6195) the 1989-90 season, while they are also on course to reach the Champions League quarter-finals, having won 2-0 away at Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of the round of 16.

The Certaldo-born tactician [favours](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luciano-spalletti/profil/trainer/517) an attacking 4-3-3 formation, which indicates he could bring an exciting brand of football to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and he has a proven history of success, having won [eight](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luciano-spalletti/erfolge/trainer/517) trophies as a manager.

If Conte does not decide to extend his stay beyond the summer, Spalletti would be an excellent replacement for the 53-year-old, but it may be hard to tempt him to leave Napoli, given how well they are doing under his stewardship.
