# Luis Suarez – Profile

**Name: Luis Suarez**

**Club: Watford**

**Date of Birth: 2 December 1997**

**Position: Centre-forward, Winger (Left/Right)**

## **Luis Suarez – his career so far**

It might surprise some that **Watford** indeed have a centre-forward on their books named **Luis Suarez** and no, it’s not the Uruguayan striker who also happens to play for **Barcelona** but the Colombian youngster currently on loan at **Real Zaragoza** in the second tier of Spanish football.

And even though he is already 22 and not exactly an extremely young academy prospect clawing his way up the ranks, **Suarez** might indeed become one of the big names at **Watford** in the not so distant future and once his spell in La Liga 2 comes to a close. But it’s been quite a rocky road for the Colombian striker so far.

Back in 2012, when he was only 14 years of age, **Suarez** suffered a horrible skull fracture that almost cost him his footballing career. But the fighter he is, he recovered and continued to make his name even despite being so young at that time. **Suarez** made his debut in senior football playing for **Leones** before spending some time in **Granada’s** academy, where he was actually first spotted by the *Hornets*.

In 2017, **Suarez** was signed by **Watford** but immediately loaned out to **Real Valladolid’s** B team. The young centre-forward ended up playing a total of 34 games for the Spanish outfit, scoring 11 goals in the process and slowly starting to show up on other teams’ radars.

But there was another loan spell waiting for him around the corner before he would settle at **Real Zaragoza** and 37 appearances with six goals and two assists for **Gimnastic de Tarragona** proved to be another fruitful spell for the youngster.

But it was at **Zaragoza** that he truly emerged from his shell, already bagging 17 goals and three assists in 30 games played for the *Segunda* team. Whatever happens to him in the near future, we are bound to hear about **Suarez** once again one way or the other.

It would be a shame if **Watford** didn’t make use of the young talent now that he’s finally starting to show his true colours.

## **Transfer latest**

With his recent emergence onto the scene at **Real Zaragoza**, it doesn’t really come as a surprise to see plenty of big teams prowling around the young forward. In some recent *transfer rumours*, big names like **Atletico Madrid**, **Napoli** and **Valencia** were attentive to his situation in the Segunda division and could still make their move in the near future.

**Suarez** revealed as much himself in an interview conducted over *Instagram* with website *Golombianos*. Currently, there are no new *transfer news* suggesting the clubs have taken another step towards possibly scooping him up but it would seem a hefty price tag could indeed make the *Hornets* consider the option of losing him.

The biggest problem is still the fact that his current contract expires this coming summer and no **[Watford news](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/watford-fc-news/)** are suggesting a new deal might be close. Needless to say, the following months could be decisive when it comes to the next step in his career.

## **Player profile**

**Suarez** is a powerful striker who works well with his back towards the goal and when he has to control and protect the ball in order to link up with his teammates and progress the play forward. Since modern strikers are very much expected to participate in the build-up, the Colombian is known to drop a bit deeper to receive and lay off the passes when necessary.

And while long combinations may not necessarily suit his profile, he does excel at quick exchanges and short one-two touch passes in and around the box. Generally speaking, **Suarez** is also a lethal finisher and will not dwell on the ball for too long before trying his luck when in good positions across the box.

With enough speed and power to beat his markers, however, he been quite successful in his dribble attempts and wins 53% on average, which is a good return regardless of the level he’s currently playing at. But with the sheer physical aspects he possesses, **Suarez** can also be a clear and aggressive asset in the defensive phase of play.
