# Man City eyeing swoop to land exceptional European defender

![Alaba](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Alaba-500x341.jpg)The Manchester City fans by the dartboard have been gathering around an article on someone’s phone, which links their team with a move for one of Europe’s finest defenders.

[*The Daily Star*](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/494454/Pep-Guardiola-Bayern-Munich-David-Alaba)[state](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/494454/Pep-Guardiola-Bayern-Munich-David-Alaba) Pep Guardiola is keen to bring Austrian defender David Alaba with him when he moves to Manchester City in the summer, with a plan to raid his former employers Bayern Munich.

With both of City’s left-backs, Aleksandar Kolarov and Gael Clichy aged 30, the prospect of signing Alaba is even more attractive.

The 23-year old is also very versatile as he is capable of playing at full-back, on the wing, in central midfield, or even as a central defender as part of a back three.

With Guardiola’s former Barcelona executives at the helm at the Etihad, they are [expected to hand him a huge transfer fund](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/494454/Pep-Guardiola-Bayern-Munich-David-Alaba) and, with Alaba currently having two years remaining on his contract, he is expected to cost around £40million.

Our landlord believes that full-back is one of City’s transfer priorities this summer and that Alaba would be an excellent addition, both in the short term and long term.
