# Manchester City: Fans gleefully recall Gabriel Jesus’ goal to clinch 100-point season

**Plenty of Manchester City fans were fondly recalling the “wonderful” moment when they put the seal on a historic season two years ago.**

In May 2018, Pep Guardiola’s side became the [first team in English football history to reach 100 points](https://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/premier-league/man-city-are-the-first-team-to-ever-win-32-games-and-earn-100-points-in-a-premier-league-season-36902104.html) in a top-flight season and they left it until the dying moments to do so. Deep into stoppage time, Gabriel Jesus [struck the winner against Southampton](https://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/premier-league/man-city-are-the-first-team-to-ever-win-32-games-and-earn-100-points-in-a-premier-league-season-36902104.html) to ensure an unprecedented achievement for City.

The club’s Twitter channel [@ManCity](https://twitter.com/ManCity/status/1260973358159728640) shared footage of that momentous goal at St Mary’s Stadium, with the Brazilian striker being set up by an inch-perfect, 50-yard pass from Kevin De Bruyne. Jesus controlled the ball deftly before setting himself to chip stranded Saints goalkeeper Alex McCarthy and spark wild celebrations from Guardiola, his team-mates and the travelling supporters.

It put the seal on a wonderful season in which they [romped to the Premier League title](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/premier-league/tabelle/wettbewerb/GB1?saison_id=2017) and they came very close to repeating the feat the following year, [defending their crown with a haul of 98 points](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/premier-league/tabelle/wettbewerb/GB1?saison_id=2018) after being pushed all the way by Liverpool.
