That would prove to be Kompany’s [265th and final league game](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vincent-kompany/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/9594/wettbewerb/GB1/verein/281) for Manchester City as he [announced his departure from the club](https://www.mancity.com/news/first-team/first-team-news/2019/may/man-city-vincent-kompany-leaves-man-city) a week later and his [goal against Leicester the previous week](https://www.goal.com/en-us/news/kompany-should-retire-right-now-man-city-stars-rocket-sends-fans-/wv2c4cdjnhha1hplm0st7ks44) ultimately proved crucial in a tightly-fought Premier League title race.

Guardiola’s side finished on [98 points](https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-table/2018), just [one clear](https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-table/2018) of a Liverpool team who [took their challenge to the final day](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/48165995) of the season, a stark contrast from the previous season when City romped to the title with [100 points, 19 more than second-placed Manchester United](https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-table/2017).

> Unsure why, but this last season felt the sweetest of them all. Obviously, the 2012 93:20 title will be the most crazy, but all Blues will agree there was a rollercoaster of emotions leading to euphoria and disbelief. This, however, was completely different emotionally. [#MCFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/MCFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) [https://t.co/P5bgH68lZ4](https://t.co/P5bgH68lZ4)
