# Manchester City: Fans loved Schalke 04’s humorous tweet

**Plenty of Manchester City fans have responded to a tongue-in-cheek tweet from the official Twitter account of Bundesliga club Schalke 04.**

The Gelsenkirchen-based outfit outlined a number of reasons as to why fans of Premier League clubs should lend them their support for the remainder of the Bundesliga season, which [resumes this weekend](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/0/bundesliga-return-date-season-restart-how-watch-fixtures-live/), and reminded City fans of a previous meeting between the two sides ([via @s04\_en](https://twitter.com/s04_en/status/1259891155828985856)).

The teams met in last season’s Champions League round of 16 and the second leg at the Etihad Stadium was a memorable one from a Manchester City perspective. Taking a 3-2 lead back with them from Germany, Pep Guardiola’s side ran riot at home, sticking seven past their beleaguered visitors without reply to complete a 10-2 aggregate romp (as per [BBC](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/47524808)).

The Premier League champions also have a couple of ex-Schalke players in their ranks. Manchester City [signed Leroy Sane from the Bundesliga club](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/36950347) in 2016 while Ilkay Gundogan, a [native of Gelsenkirchen](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ilkay-gundogan/profil/spieler/53622), was a [youth player at Schalke](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ilkay-gundogan/transfers/spieler/53622) before he became a professional footballer.

These City fans on Twitter loved Schalke’s tweet and agreed to throw their weight in behind the German club for the rest of the Bundesliga season:
