# Manchester City: Fans stunned by reports linking Raheem Sterling with Man United

**A number of Manchester City fans were left stunned by a transfer report linking Raheem Sterling with a potential move to their crosstown rivals.**

[The Independent](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/manchester-united-news-transfer-jadon-sancho-grealish-rodon-a9542296.html)‘s Miguel Delaney reported on Monday that the 25-year-old has emerged as a surprise transfer target for Manchester United, whose analytics team have been monitoring the England international. The story was later shared on Twitter by Man City Report ([@cityreport\_](https://twitter.com/cityreport_/status/1267434494413418502)).

> Manchester United's analytics team have been working on Raheem Sterling and if [@ManCity](https://twitter.com/ManCity?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)'s [#UCL](https://twitter.com/hashtag/UCL?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) ban is upheld they will try and sign him this summer.

According to [The Independent](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/manchester-united-news-transfer-jadon-sancho-grealish-rodon-a9542296.html), the apparent interest from the Old Trafford club “is a reflection of a relative uncertainty” around the future of Sterling at the Etihad Stadium if Manchester City lose their upcoming appeal against a two-year ban from UEFA competitions, which would of course preclude them from the Champions League.

The winger has struck [20 goals this season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/raheem-sterling/leistungsdaten/spieler/134425) for Pep Guardiola’s side and [89 in total](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/raheem-sterling/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/134425/verein/281) for the club since his [2015 switch from Liverpool](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33497488), a fine scoring return which led to one Manchester City fan calling him “gargantuan”. Another questioned why he would leave the club which won the last two Premier League titles, and [eight trophies since the start of 2018](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-city/erfolge/verein/281), for a team who finished [sixth in the league last year](https://www.premierleague.com/tables?co=1&se=210&ha=-1) and are only [one position better off this time around](https://www.premierleague.com/tables).
