Man City ‘sources’ hint at ‘significant’ midfield investment

Etihad Stadium, Manchester, Britain - August 31, 2022, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola during the match.

Journalist Jack Gaughan of The Daily Mail has shared an exciting transfer update he’s heard from his Manchester City sources.

The Lowdown: City entertaining…

The Sky Blues have enjoyed an absolutely thrilling start to this 2022/2023 season, most recently coming back from a goal down to seal all three points against Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Jude Bellingham’s opener, a header at the near post, kicked City into gear as Pep Guardiola’s side upped the tempo and eventually found a breakthrough.

John Stones, playing right-back against Dortmund at the Etihad Stadium, unleashed a thunderous, long-range drive past the hapless Alexander Meyer who appeared to mis-judge the flight of the ball.

At 1-1, a magical, pin-point cross from Joao Cancelo, utilising his trademark outside-of-the-foot delivery, found in-form summer signing Erling Haaland, who buried an acrobatic finish past Meyer for City’s win.

The Premier League champions are in imperious form right now, but that hasn’t stopped City chiefs from weighing their next transfer market moves, as explained by Gaughan.

The Latest: Gaughan shares promising Man City transfer update…

According to the reliable journalist, via City Xtra, Eastlands ‘sources’ haven’t ruled out ‘significant’ investment in the club’s next priority area.

Gaughan goes on to explain that this may well be in midfield despite Guardiola currently being spoiled for choice with the likes of Ilkay Gundogan, Rodri, Kalvin Phillips, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Kevin De Bruyne.

The Verdict: Exciting…

City’s strength in depth is quite simply unbelievable but the squad is in an ever-changing phase at this point in time, as highlighted by their summer transfers.

Mainstays of the past few seasons like Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fernandinho and Raheem Sterling all made way for the brand new quartet Phillips, Haaland, Julian Alvarez and Stefan Ortega – not to mention Manuel Akanji soon after.

As Guardiola’s side continues to evolve, it’ll be interesting to see who City are linked with for new midfield additions or which players could make way for their arrivals.
