# Manchester City: Journalist breaks Paulo Dybala transfer development

**Taking to [social media](https://twitter.com/calciolovesjack/status/1488844381268414468?s=21), journalist Jack Gallagher of 90min has shared some big post-January transfer news out of Manchester City involving Juventus forward Paulo Dybala.**

### The Lowdown: Sky Blue striker hunt…

City recently [confirmed the signing](https://www.mancity.com/news/mens/manchester-city-complete-signing-of-julian-alvarez-63779231) of electric Argentine striker Julian Alvarez from River Plate, with the 22-year-old re-joining his previous club on loan until the end of 2021/22.

Despite his massive potential and [comparisons to club legend Sergio Aguero](https://www.goal.com/en/news/julian-alvarez-man-city-long-term-aguero-replacement/bltea87ea06640acd49), reliable sources indicate that Alvarez’s arrival at Eastlands will not affect sporting director Txiki Begiristain’s hunt for a world-class centre-forward in the summer ([The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/3102742/2022/02/01/explained-julian-alvarezs-move-to-man-city-and-why-hes-more-than-an-emerging-talent/?source=user_shared_article)).

Pep Guardiola’s side are still without a recognised out-and-out senior option, discounting Gabriel Jesus, who has [shone in a makeshift right-wing](https://www.si.com/soccer/manchestercity/news/its-perfect-man-city-star-opens-up-on-story-behind-significant-positional-change-under-pep-guardiola) role this season.

City’s use of the false nine system to cope with their striker shortage has resulted in yet another sublime Premier League campaign thus far as they sit [top of the pile.](https://www.premierleague.com/tables)

However, in some post-window news, 90min reporter Gallagher has shared a development involving Serie A star Dybala.

### The Latest: Dybala ‘offered’ to Man City…

According to [the journalist’s sources](https://twitter.com/calciolovesjack/status/1488844381268414468?s=21), City and Guardiola have been ‘offered’ Juve’s versatile attacker, [who can play](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/paulo-dybala/profil/spieler/206050) both as a centre-forward and second striker.

Dybala’s contract in Turin runs out at the end of 2021/22, giving Premier League clubs the chance to snap him up for free this year, with the Argentine’s representatives due to ‘fly around Europe’ for ‘talks’ in the weeks ahead.

### The Verdict: Something to consider?

After the Citizens [missed out on Tottenham striker Harry Kane](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/levy-tottenham-kane-man-city-24782790) last summer, much has been made of Begiristain and co’s possible efforts to sign Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Braut Haaland. Sam Lee of [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/3102742/2022/02/01/explained-julian-alvarezs-move-to-man-city-and-why-hes-more-than-an-emerging-talent/?source=user_shared_article) believes that the Norway striker favours a move to Real Madrid, but City will fight tooth and nail to sway him towards Eastlands.

However, if Haaland becomes a no-go, should Dybala be considered as a free agent signing for Guardiola?

His best Serie A season to date yielded a return of 22 goals and five assists in 33 top-flight outings over 2017/18, but the 28-year-old hasn’t come close to matching those numbers since ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/paulo-dybala/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/206050)).

His [£222,000-per-week wages](https://salarysport.com/football/player/paulo-dybala/) could also be a point of contention for the club, and despite former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson calling him ‘[world-class](https://www.footballinsider247.com/robinson-liverpool-told-to-sign-phenomenal-firmino-replacement-as-stunning-raid-plotted/?amp)‘ recently, we believe he may be one to avoid for City, especially with the recent capture of another South American hotshot.
