# Man City: Sky Blues set to offer Riyad Mahrez a new contract

**According to [transfer insider](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano) Fabrizio Romano, [Manchester City](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-city-news/) are set to offer Riyad Mahrez a new contract this summer.**

### The Lowdown: Instant impact

The 31-year-old [arrived](https://www.mancity.com/players/riyad-mahrez) at the Etihad Stadium from [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) rivals Leicester in 2018 and has since gone on to become an integral member of Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad, clocking up [188](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/riyad-mahrez/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/171424) appearances during his four-year spell in Manchester.

However, the Algerian has just under [12 months](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/riyad-mahrez/profil/spieler/171424) remaining on his current contract with the Sky Blues, which means that his future may need to be decided this summer .

### The Latest: Mahrez set for contract talks

Taking to Twitter, Romano [revealed](https://twitter.com/fabrizioromano/status/1544961920221925377?s=21&t=C92SjQETbUKfKk77ncAFGw) that City are keen to tie down Mahrez and are preparing to offer him a new deal.

The journalist wrote: “Not just Marc Cucurella as main target. Manchester City are prepared to offer Riyad Mahrez a new contract after Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus departures.

“Discussions will take place in the next weeks. Mahrez, in new contracts list at City with Rodri and Foden.”

### The Verdict: Boost for Pep

With Jesus having [already joined Arsenal](https://www.arsenal.com/news/arsenal-complete-gabriel-jesus-signing) and Sterling [seemingly on his way](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11668/12645562/raheem-sterling-man-city-forward-agrees-personal-terms-with-chelsea) to Chelsea, Guardiola will want to ensure that he retains the services of one of his longer-serving forwards, and arguably the most important.

The [75-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/riyad-mahrez/nationalmannschaft/spieler/171424) Algeria international was City’s top scorer in all competitions, finding the net 24 times, five clear of Kevin De Bruyne in second, via [BBC Sport](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/manchester-city/top-scorers).

This return in the final third was been a huge contributing factor to the Sky Blues getting their hands on the Premier League trophy once again, so it will be a massive boost for Guardiola if Mahrez puts pen to paper on a new contract and extends his stay in Manchester.
