# Manchester City: Sergio Aguero is a transfer target for Inter

**Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has emerged as a transfer target for Inter, according to reports from Italian media.**

[Alfredo Pedulla](https://www.alfredopedulla.com/il-retroscena-inter-tra-laffare-lautaro-e-le-altre-valutazioni-cavani-idea-estiva-che-torna-e-aguero-riflette/) reported \[via [Manchester Evening News](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aguero-man-city-transfer-news-18284290)\] that the Serie A club are lining up a move for the 31-year-old as a replacement for Lautaro Martinez, who is expected to leave the San Siro this summer.

Aguero, who is Manchester City’s [all-time record goalscorer](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41822027), has enjoyed yet another excellent season at the Etihad Stadium, firing in [23 goals in 30 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sergio-aguero/leistungsdaten/spieler/26399) for Pep Guardiola’s team. His tally of 16 Premier League goals is the [joint-third highest](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/premier-league/torschuetzenliste/wettbewerb/GB1/saison_id/2019) in the division, showing that his eye for goal is as sharp as ever.

Even in a team of City’s [abundance of attacking riches](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-city/leistungsdaten/verein/281), the Argentine seems indispensable given his status as their [top scorer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-city/leistungsdaten/verein/281) this term, just as he has been in [each of the previous five seasons](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-city/toptorschuetzensaison/verein/281). He has long since proven that he is a consistently reliable scorer who has no doubt helped in a big way to fuel the club’s [glittering collection of trophies](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-city/erfolge/verein/281) over the past decade.

A scorer in each of Manchester City’s first six league games this season, he has come up with several important goals during 2019/20, including two late strikes at home to Crystal Palace, the winner at Sheffield United and the opener in the Carabao Cup final defeat of Aston Villa. \[via [TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sergio-aguero/leistungsdaten/spieler/26399)\]

It is certainly in Manchester City’s best interests to keep Aguero for as long as they can but, if Inter are successful in their pursuit of the 31-year-old, the centre-forward onus at the Etihad will then fall on Gabriel Jesus.

The Brazilian has enjoyed nearly as impressive season as his team-mate, helping himself to [18 goals in 39 appearances over 2,224 minutes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gabriel-jesus/leistungsdaten/spieler/363205) of game-time, scoring once every 123.56 minutes. Considering that he is [not a fixed presence in Guardiola’s first XI](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gabriel-jesus/leistungsdaten/spieler/363205), the 23-year-old’s scoring tally is quite commendable.

He has shown that he can step up with vital goals, such as his equaliser in the 2-1 win over Real Madrid in February and his late winner at Leicester a few days previously, as well as grabbing both goals in the 2-1 defeat of Everton. \[via [TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gabriel-jesus/leistungsdaten/spieler/363205)\]

Those are the sort of contributions which Jesus would need to produce consistently if Aguero goes and the task of being Manchester City’s main centre-forward is placed on his young shoulders.

***Man City fans, does Jesus’ contribution go relatively unnoticed given Aguero’s formidable scoring record? Comment below with your views!***
