# Man City’s loss could be Newcastle’s gain if this midfielder moves north this summer

**Securing promotion back to the Premier League proved to be a mere formality for Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle outfit, as the Magpies stormed to a top two finish before pipping title rivals Brighton at the post to win the division.**

Our Geordie punters here at the Transfer Tavern are in jubilant mood on the back of a winning season, and the rumours circulating regarding their summer transfer activity is only serving to further excitement the St James’ park faithful.

A rowdy bunch surrounding the jukebox beckoned over our landlord, who had a good chinwag with the fans about their side’s summer ambitions.

A dominating central midfielder was at the top of their wishlist, and nobody could look any further than Man City’s Fernando.

The Brazilian was a bit part player at the Etihad last season, making only five league starts.

Newcastle could secure the player in a cut price deal as City will be keen to get the player of the books, and 29-year-old Fernando would be a quality addition to the middle of the park in the north east.

Benitez will look to add bite and drive to his midfield unit this off-season, and Fernando is the perfect man to lead the charge next season.
