# Man United closing in on mega deal for Mourinho’s No.1 target

**Even though there was a report from [TuttoMercatoWeb](https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/europa/esclusiva-tmw-chelsea-offensiva-per-griezmann-obiettivo-forte-per-l-estate-951965) on Thursday that Chelsea are** **in the race for Antoine Griezmann, Manchester United are, according to the [Manchester Evening News](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-utd-sign-antoine-griezmann--12788793), on the verge of sealing a deal for the Atletico Madrid ace.**

The 26-year-old attacker has been mooted as one of the Red Devils’ major targets for some time, with the [Independent](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/antoine-griezmanns-transfer-manchester-united-wayne-rooney-a7559996.html) claiming in the wake of the January transfer window that he was already being eyed for the summer.

And now the [MEN](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-utd-sign-antoine-griezmann--12788793) reveal that the club are closing in on a deal for him that could cost as much as £86.5m – which is not seen as an issue at Old Trafford.

The outlet claim that sources close to the player believe that the transfer is on the verge of being settled, while the La Liga club are aware that keeping the player at the Vicente Calderon may be impossible given his €100m (£86.5m) release clause.

Further to all of this, the [Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/783161/Manchester-United-Antoine-Griezmann-Transfer-News-Atletico-Madrid-Jose-Mourinho) state that Griezmann is Jose Mourinho’s No.1 transfer target, while the [MEN](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-utd-sign-antoine-griezmann--12788793) again wade in by suggesting that Wayne Rooney could be moved on.

***Antoine Griezmann is making the wrong choice if he joins Manchester United – agree?***
