# Manchester United: Red Devils ‘will take a decision’ on Dean Henderson at end of season

**[Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/) manager Erik ten Hag has admitted that the club ‘will take a decision’ on the future of [Dean Henderson](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/dean-henderson/) at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.**

### The Lowdown: Goalkeeper latest

The goalkeeper joined [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) rivals Nottingham Forest on a season-long [loan](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12644246/dean-henderson-nottingham-forest-sign-manchester-united-goalkeeper-on-loan) over the summer and has made an impressive start to life at the City Ground.

David de Gea has [reportedly](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/manchester-united-david-de-gea-lyall-thomas-latest-contract-news-rumours-updates/) entered talks regarding a new long-term contract with United, which has raised questions surrounding the 25-year-old’s role, although the manager has now delivered a fresh update.

### The Latest: Ten Hag’s comments

Speaking prior to Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Forest, Ten Hag revealed that Henderson’s future at Old Trafford will be assessed next summer.

Quoted by [Manchester Evening News](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/dean-henderson-man-united-news-25831826), the 52-year-old said: “No, I wouldn’t give that decision already now. I think he is on a loan for one season. During the season, when the season is coming to an end, we will take a decision and that depends on a lot of factors. He is playing really well at Nottingham Forest.”

### The Verdict: Don’t let him go

Henderson has almost always [played second fiddle](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dean-henderson/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/258919) to De Gea at Old Trafford, aside from a [brief spell](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dean-henderson/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/258919/plus/0/verein/985) in 2020/21, but United should keep hold of him given how efficient he can be between the sticks.

The England international has recorded [13](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dean-henderson/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/258919) clean sheets in just 29 senior appearances for the Red Devils, not to mention that he still has [two-and-a-half years](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dean-henderson/profil/spieler/258919) remaining on his current deal with the club.

[Dubbed](https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/sport/football/news/sander-berge-dean-henderson-praise-17877641) ‘awesome’ by former Sheffield United team-mate Sander Berge, the shot-stopper will have a point to prove upon his return to Manchester, and an accomplished 2022/23 season could help him to force his way into Ten Hag’s plans moving forward.
