# Manchester United: Fans fume over Sergio Romero’s squad exclusion

**A number of Manchester United fans have been venting their frustrations over the Red Devils’ “horrendous” handling of [Sergio Romero](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/manchester-united-fans-fume-over-latest-reports-over-rejected-everton-offer-for-sergio-romero/)‘s situation after the goalkeeper was left out of their [25-man Premier League squad](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/breaking-man-utd-squad-confirmed-19135160).**

The [Argentina international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sergio-romero/nationalmannschaft/spieler/30690/verein_id/3437) has been [omitted](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/breaking-man-utd-squad-confirmed-19135160) from United’s squads for the first half of the Premier League campaign and the Champions League, with the ‘keeper having been informed via social media, according to ESPN reporter [Rob Dawson](https://twitter.com/RobDawsonESPN/status/1318586556249157634?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet), while it is not believed he was told he would be surplus to requirements in the summer.

Romero came close to [securing a move away](https://theathletic.com/news/manchester-united-transfer-romero-everton/c6U2RzskXgyM?source=rss) from Old Trafford in the last few days of the European transfer window. However, a move to Everton failed to materialse, with United holding out for a fee of around £8m. They were also reluctant to send him on loan to the Toffees as they considered the Merseyside club to be a top-four rival, as per [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/news/manchester-united-transfer-romero-everton/c6U2RzskXgyM?source=rss).

The Toffees had been willing to offer a £2m loan fee as well as paying all of the 33-year-old’s £100,000-a-week salary, according to [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/news/manchester-united-transfer-romero-everton/c6U2RzskXgyM?source=rss). However, Romero is now set to be on the periphery unless a move to the MLS occurs, having [fallen behind Dean Henderson](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-united/leistungsdaten/verein/985) in the pecking order.

Plenty of Manchester United fans believe that the club have treated the ‘keeper poorly during the whole saga, with some feeling his professionalism has warranted more respect.

### **United fans react to Sergio Romero’s exclusion from Premier League squad**

> Romero deserves to be treated with the utmost respect from the club. He's been nothing but a top professional. I'm ashamed a club the size of [@ManUtd](https://twitter.com/ManUtd?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) have gone about this completely the wrong way

> United used to be a club with values and morals. If a player wanted to go then it would be supported. If they weren’t good enough they were let go for a decent price. Now we sack managers days after winning the cup and treat not only Romero but Phil Jones so badly

> Disgraceful treatment of a loyal player who performed everytime he wore the shirt.\
> His future was done when henderson was brought back so the least united couldve done was move him on respectfully instead they made a mess out of it….

> Horrendous, meanwhile he has been a model professional and excelled when called upon.

> Disgraceful.. Never once put a foot wrong or said a bad thing about us or our various managers in fact nearly everyone around him says what a nice person and great professional he is.. Yet we treat him like this..

> I think most fans would be on Romero’s side. He has been an impeccable professional and doesn’t deserve this.
