# Manchester United: Fans offer mixed reactions over potential move for Hakan Calhanoglu

**A number of Manchester United fans have been offering their reactions to recent [reports](https://twitter.com/cfbayern/status/1322219195174670341?s=20) that the Red Devils are in deep negotiations with [Hakan Calhanoglu](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league/arsenal/gunners-latest-transfer-news-hakan-calhanoglu/) over a potential free transfer ahead of next summer.**

Calhanoglu’s current deal at AC Milan expires at the end of the season and the Italian club have seen their contract offer of around £54,000-a-week turned down by the 26-year-old, per [Bild](https://twitter.com/cfbayern/status/1322219195174670341?s=20). However, the [50-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hakan-calhanoglu/nationalmannschaft/spieler/126414) Turkey playmaker is reportedly willing to stay with the Italian giants if they can improve their wage offer.

If AC Milan cannot sort out a new and improved offer for Calhanoglu, they risk losing the versatile forward in January to a pre-contract agreement which could be signed with another European club. That has duly alerted both Manchester United and Juventus to the 26-year-old’s potential availability, per [Bild](https://twitter.com/cfbayern/status/1322219195174670341?s=20).

It has now emerged that United are in deep negotiations with the Turkey international over a potential move to bring him in on a free transfer ahead of next summer, per [Bild](https://twitter.com/cfbayern/status/1322219195174670341?s=20). AC Milan are ready to allow him to leave at the end of the season rather than in January as they see him as an integral part of their squad, per [Bild](https://twitter.com/cfbayern/status/1322219195174670341?s=20).

### **United fans react to Calhanoglu interest**

Plenty of Manchester United fans were enthused by the prospect of bringing in the “class” playmaker, who scored nine goals and provided nine assists last term in Serie A ([Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/hakan-calhanoglu/135700)). However, others were more sceptical and suggested that the Red Devils should focus more on other areas of the squad.

> Would grab him with both hands tbh, never a bad option to have in the squad. He’s been an integral part of Milan’s recent renaissance. Good buy that would be but we know how it works here

> We don’t need him. VDB is struggling to get game time as is. Why do we need another playmaker who will probably get even less of a chance…
