# Man United handed huge blow as star-target is set to be offered huge deal

**Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are cursing their luck after hearing the latest transfer news, which indicates a major stumbling block has been placed in the way of their pursuit of a top summer target.**

Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann currently sits top of Jose Mourinho’s summer wish-list, with Manchester United’s need to bolster their forward lines increased by Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s long-term injury lay-off and the likely exit of Wayne Rooney this summer.

However, [*The Times*](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/sport/atletico-in-fight-to-keep-84m-griezmann-5mn2qbtg6)[states](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/sport/atletico-in-fight-to-keep-84m-griezmann-5mn2qbtg6) Atletico are ready to pull out all the stops to keep French international Griezmann at the club- as they consider a new deal for the striker that would make him the club’s highest earner.

[A club source indicated](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/sport/atletico-in-fight-to-keep-84m-griezmann-5mn2qbtg6) that a new deal for Griezmann would raise his release-clause beyond the €100m mark, whilst the striker could earn as much as €12m-a-year- which would see the French striker paid more than Diego Simeone.

However, Manchester United would be able to offer a similar deal to the Frenchman if he moved to the Premier League this summer and our landlord still believes the Red Devils will land his services.
