# Manchester United: Red Devils expected to trigger Paul Pogba’s contract renewal

**Manchester United have pinned all their hopes on Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba forming a partnership to keep the Frenchman at Old Trafford, via [The Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8389709/Man-United-believe-Bruno-Fernandes-partnership-persuade-Paul-Pogba-commit-future.html).**

The Red Devils duo still haven’t played together as [Fernandes’ arrival in January](https://www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/man-utd-complete-the-signing-of-bruno-fernandes-from-sporting#:~:text=Manchester%20United%20is%20delighted%20to,extend%20for%20a%20further%20year.) coincided with Pogba’s [long-term injury](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8389709/Man-United-believe-Bruno-Fernandes-partnership-persuade-Paul-Pogba-commit-future.html). However, the French World Cup winner has made a full recovery and is excited to link up with the Portuguese maestro.

It is fair to say that Fernandes has been a revelation since he moved to Old Trafford for £47m from Sporting Lisbon, a sum which eventually reached [£68m](https://metro.co.uk/2020/06/04/bruno-fernandes-reveals-tottenham-tried-sign-before-manchester-united-transfer-12800372/). Indeed, he has scored two goals and created three assists in only five games in the [Premier League](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/123761/Show/Bruno-Fernandes) so far, while averaging [3.8 shots per game](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/123761/Show/Bruno-Fernandes) in the division.

According to [The Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8389709/Man-United-believe-Bruno-Fernandes-partnership-persuade-Paul-Pogba-commit-future.html), Pogba believes that the Portugal midfielder’s presence has made a massive difference to the team.

The 27-year-old has [repeatedly been linked with a move away](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8389709/Man-United-believe-Bruno-Fernandes-partnership-persuade-Paul-Pogba-commit-future.html) from the Theatre of Dreams in recent months, with [Maurizio Sarri’s Juventus and Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/11771450/pogba-man-utd-psg-juventus-real-madrid-zidane-call/) registering their interest in the midfielder. Although he has only managed 521 minutes of Premier League action this season, he has still averaged 2.3 key passes per game (via [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/97752/Show/Paul-Pogba)).

Pogba’s existing deal is set to expire [next season](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/97752/Show/Paul-Pogba), although United are expected to trigger a [contract renewal](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/97752/Show/Paul-Pogba). The club value the French international at a staggering [£150m](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/man-united-transfer-news-funds-take-a-hit-loan-players-tough-sell-a4458766.html).

At the moment, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are currently fifth in the [table](https://www.premierleague.com/tables), three points away from a place in the top four.

Solskjaer has previously [complained](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/dec/15/ole-gunnar-solskjaer-manchester-united-everton) about a lack of creativity in the midfield options and if Pogba and Fernandes can flourish alongside each other, the Red Devils may be able to mount a successful challenge for Champions League football.
