# Manchester United: Marcus Rashford could become club’s highest-paid player

**[Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/) could make forward [Marcus Rashford](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/marcus-rashford/) their highest-paid player if he signs a new deal at the club, according to journalist Steve Bates.**

### The Lowdown: Rashford to sign new deal?

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a pleasing return to form this season, having [scored four goals](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/300299/Show/Marcus-Rashford) and registered two assists in the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) this season, along with netting three times for England at the [World Cup](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/world-cup-2022/).

He is already on nine goals for United in all competitions this term, almost doubling his tally from the entirety of 2021/22 \[[Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcus-rashford/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/258923)\].

Recent [reports](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/manchester-united-premier-league-rashford-dalot-transfer-news-updates/) have suggested that the attacker is closing in on agreeing a new deal at Old Trafford, with his current contract [expiring](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcus-rashford/profil/spieler/258923) at the end of next season.

### The Latest: Rashford set for pay hike

Speaking to [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/88098177-man-utd-transfer-news-making-moves-behind-scenes-old-trafford), Bates claimed that United could now make Rashford the best-paid player at the club in order to secure his future at Old Trafford and are working behind the scenes to try and get a deal done.

The reporter stated:

> “I think there are moves behind-the-scenes now to get a big contract in front of Rashford.
>
> “Over time, certainly in the next year or two, I think that will make him the highest-paid player at the club.”

### The Verdict: Does he deserve it?

A new deal for Rashford would clearly be a positive for United, given his lifelong affiliation with the club and the quality he has shown over many years now, even being hailed as ‘[extraordinary](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/kate-winslet-praises-extraordinary-marcus-25674830)‘ by actress Kate Winslet for his [off-field philanthropy](https://www.google.ie/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiPmJ3Bqpn8AhWEoFwKHT4BCPoQFnoECB8QAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.manutd.com%2Fen%2Fnews%2Fdetail%2Ftimeline-of-marcus-rashfords-charity-work-and-awards-in-2020&usg=AOvVaw2Mda_bCOV3rducxNuT6gHl).

While his form [dropped off dramatically](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/300299/History/Marcus-Rashford) last season, his record still stands at [102 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcus-rashford/alletore/spieler/258923) in 323 appearances, while he is only 25 years of age and therefore should have even more to offer for another few years.

That said, already earning [£200,000 per week](https://fbref.com/en/squads/19538871/2022-2023/wages/Manchester-United-Wage-Details), Rashford will need to go up another gear if he is to justify becoming the club’s highest-paid player, performing to a world-class level on a consistent basis and making the Old Trafford faithful forget about a certain Cristiano Ronaldo.
