# Man United preparing bid for iconic midfielder as contract talks stall

![busquets](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/busquets1-500x366.jpg)Manchester United may have found an ideal transfer falling straight into their hands, as a stall in contract negotiations has intensified speculation of a high-profile transfer this summer.

[Spanish media outlet *Fichajes* claim](https://www.fichajes.net/noticias/united-sigue-pendiente-busquets-20160405.html) Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets is demanding a pay rise in Catalonia and the lack of response from the club has ignited Manchester United’s interest in the World Cup winner.

Busquets has been an ever-present figure in Barcelona’s success in recent years but he’s yet to be rewarded with a fresh contract that meets his demands, as he wants to match the wages earned by team-mates Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez.

If there are no developments, Busquets may seek an exit and Manchester United would be in pole position to land his signature, although they’d [face competition from rivals Manchester City and French giants Paris Saint-Germain.](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/649406/Barcelona-consider-offers-Man-Utd-City-Paris-Saint-Germain-Busquets)

With the 27-year-old having won everything he possibly could at club and international level so far in his career, the combative midfielder may find a fresh challenge appealing but he may demand Champions League football, which United face a test in landing.
