# Manchester United: Red Devils still keen on Denzel Dumfries

**[Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/) are still interested in making a move for Inter Milan and Netherlands right-back Denzel Dumfries, according to a transfer report from Italy.**

### The Lowdown: Man United linked with Dumfries

[Erik ten Hag](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/erik-ten-hag/) is still on the lookout for possible new signings in the January and summer transfer windows, as he looks to take his squad up another gear.

One player who has been [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/manchester-united-red-devils-in-talks-with-denzel-dumfries-agent/) with a move to Old Trafford is Dumfries, who caught the eye with some impressive performances for Netherlands at the 2022 [World Cup](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/world-cup-2022/). The 26-year-old [scored once and registered two assists](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/322153/Show/Denzel-Dumfries) in Qatar, helping his country to reach the quarter-finals in the process.

### The Latest: Man United ‘alive’ to Dumfries’ situation

According to Italian outlet [Calciomercato](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/inter-dumfries-via-a-fine-stagione-il-sostituto-puo-arrivare-dal-18158), United are still eyeing up a potential move for Dumfries and are ‘alive’ to the current situation.

Chelsea and Bayern Munich are also mentioned in the report, with the Inter Milan defender potentially looking for a fresh challenge. His club are already on the lookout for a potential successor, with the report linking the Nerazzurri with Tajon Buchanan to come in and take his place at San Siro.

### The Verdict: Wan-Bissaka replacement?

Dumfries could be an astute prospective signing by United, with the Dutchman providing competition for Diogo Dalot at right-back and acting as an upgrade on Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has just [one assist](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/331924/Show/Aaron-Wan-Bissaka) this season in all competitions compared to Dumfries’ [two goals and three assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denzel-dumfries/leistungsdaten/spieler/321528).

The Inter right-back offers much more going forward than his English counterpart, with more shots, shot-creating actions and goal-creating actions per 90 minutes and more crosses and progressive passes than Wan-Bissaka (as per [FBref](https://fbref.com/en/stathead/player_comparison.cgi?request=1&sum=0&comp_type=by_type&dom_lg=1&spec_comps=big_5&player_id1=481c9ece&p1yrfrom=2022-2023&player_id2=9e525177&p2yrfrom=2022-2023)).

Dumfries’ attacking prowess is hugely impressive, having racked up [43 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denzel-dumfries/alletore/spieler/321528) in his club career, and the only stumbling block is whether or not he would be happy being a squad player at Old Trafford if he doesn’t go straight into Ten Hag’s starting XI.

He has been praised by Micah Richards for his ‘[breathless](https://www.teamtalk.com/tottenham-hotspur/denzel-dumfries-praised-expert-breathless-world-cup-performance-heightening-spurs-interest)‘ all-action style of play , and the [£55k-per-week](https://fbref.com/en/players/481c9ece/Denzel-Dumfries#all_wages) defender would provide depth and attacking thrust to a United squad which is improving all the time under their current boss.
