# Manchester United: Red Devils reach Wout Weghorst agreement

**[Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/) have reached a ‘full, verbal agreement to sign Wout Weghorst’ on loan from Burnley, [Fabrizio Romano](https://twitter.com/fabrizioromano/status/1612872003047854090?s=46&t=LLqkYrUkNds0L_W9ydv7dQ) reports.**

### The Lowdown: Butland in

The Red Devils have already made a January signing by securing the services of goalkeeper [Jack Butland](https://www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/man-utd-complete-loan-signing-of-jack-butland-from-crystal-palace) from Crystal Palace on loan until the end of the season.

United acted swiftly after Newcastle United recalled Martin Dubravka, with Butland set to provide cover for [David de Gea](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/david-de-gea/) alongside Tom Heaton.

Old Trafford chiefs are now working on signing Weghorst after they parted ways with [Cristiano Ronaldo](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/cristiano-ronaldo/) towards the end of 2022.

### The Latest: Weghorst next?

[Romano](https://twitter.com/fabrizioromano/status/1612872003047854090?s=46&t=LLqkYrUkNds0L_W9ydv7dQ) took to Twitter on Tuesday to share an update on Weghorst. He revealed that a ‘full, verbal agreement’ has been reached which will see United pay Burnley a €3m (£2.7m) loan fee.

The transfer expert added that Besiktas, where the forward is currently on loan, still need to approve a transfer and will only do so if they find a replacement.

### The Verdict: Good move for United

Described as a ‘[World Cup hero](https://twitter.com/alex_brotherton/status/1601323549037277184)’ by journalist Alex Brotherton following his two goals against Argentina in the quarter-finals, Weghorst has plenty of experience at the highest level for club and country.

The [Adidas-sponsored](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wout-weghorst/profil/spieler/228645) forward contributed to [five](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wout-weghorst/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/228645) goals in [20](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wout-weghorst/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/228645) games in the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) for Burnley last season and has impressed in Turkey, scoring [eight](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wout-weghorst/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/228645) times in [16](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wout-weghorst/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/228645) league appearances for Besiktas.

The 30-year-old, who stands at [6 foot 6](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wout-weghorst/profil/spieler/228645), will give [Erik ten Hag](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/erik-ten-hag/) a different option at centre-forward to Anthony Martial, should a move go through. That in turn should allow Marcus Rashford to remain out wide, looking to continue his [fine goalscoring form](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcus-rashford/leistungsdaten/spieler/258923).
