# Manchester United: Red Devils named in Sasa Lukic transfer race

**[Manchester United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-united-news/) have been named alongside [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) rivals Leeds United in the race to sign Torino midfielder Sasa Lukic.**

### The Lowdown: Lukic profiled

Lukic is [primarily](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sa-scaron-a-luki%C4%87/profil/spieler/245056) a central midfielder but can also play in more defensive or advanced midfield roles if required. The 26-year-old, who has been labelled [‘outstanding’](https://twitter.com/Buntingfootball/status/1213940613688762370) by journalist Josh Bunting, has been away with Serbia at the [World Cup](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/world-cup-2022/) in Qatar, [starting](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/297395/Show/Sasa-Lukic) their first two Group G games.

He will soon be entering the [final 18 months](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sa-scaron-a-luki%C4%87/profil/spieler/245056) of his Torino contract, and it seems as if a move to Old Trafford could be a possibility.

### The Latest: Man United linked with Lukic

[Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/local-source-says-leeds-united-manchester-united-signing/) relayed an update from [Torino Granata](https://www.torinogranata.it/mercato/per-lukic-sirene-dalla-premier-league-ci-sarebbe-il-leeds-su-di-lui-143924) regarding Lukic on Thursday in which the Red Devils were named.

They claimed that Manchester United are interested in the midfielder, who has been [followed](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/leeds-whites-to-follow-sasa-lukic-at-world-cup/) by domestic rivals Leeds during the World Cup.

### The Verdict: Alongside Gakpo?

Leeds were [keen to sign](https://www.google.ie/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjd9bGZ6Nr7AhW1olwKHXAyBqwQFnoECCMQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailymail.co.uk%2Fsport%2Ffootball%2Farticle-11298673%2FPSVs-Cody-Gakpo-not-keen-Leeds-amid-bigger-clubs.html&usg=AOvVaw05xjshfOfo8zFHO4zdysMB) Cody Gakpo in the summer, but it seems as if the Netherlands star could soon be moving to Old Trafford after an [‘agreement in principle’](https://www.footballinsider247.com/man-united-gakpo-sources/) was reached.

Therefore, the Red Devils could look to pip their rivals to another possible signing in Lukic, who may be seen as a shrewd addition to Erik ten Hag’s midfield.

You could argue that United need more midfield reinforcements, with only [two](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-united/kader/verein/985) defensive, [two](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-united/kader/verein/985) central and [two](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-united/kader/verein/985) attacking midfielders on the books at this moment in time, so the versatile Lukic could bolster all three of those areas at Old Trafford.
