# Everton: Toffees join Ivan Toney transfer race

**[Everton](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/everton-fc-news/) have reportedly now joined the race to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney.**

### The Lowdown: Striker needed

Once again, the Toffees’ lack of a potent striker cost them points over the weekend, as they slumped to a 1-1 draw at home to Nottingham Forest in the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/), needing a last-gasp Demarai Gray equaliser to rescue a point.

Salomon Rondon started the game but was taken off before the hour mark with the score at 0-0, as he was off target with both of his efforts on goal ([SofaScore](https://www.sofascore.com/everton-nottingham-forest/osY)).

That is now just two goals scored in their first three matches following the 1-0 and 2-1 defeats to Chelsea and Aston Villa respectively, and with Dominic Calvert-Lewin [injured](https://www.google.ie/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwil2KvPi9r5AhXLPsAKHXi5BOAQFnoECAoQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theguardian.com%2Ffootball%2F2022%2Faug%2F03%2Feverton-dominic-calvert-lewin-faces-month-out-knee-injury&usg=AOvVaw1lUOoxAFyhy_fcMoHvvbjF), the Merseyside club must focus on bringing a striker in before the transfer window closes.

### The Latest: Toney interest

As per [The Daily Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/chelsea-rival-man-utd-ivan-27793178), Everton – as well as Chelsea – have joined the race to sign Toney, who is also being courted by Manchester United.

Frank Lampard’s team are weighing up a move for the Englishman, who features on their list of targets, and the Bees are bracing themselves for incoming bids.

### The Verdict: Ambitious

Given that Brentford finished [above](https://www.premierleague.com/tables?co=1&se=418&ha=-1) the Toffees in the Premier League last season, and have started off this campaign [better](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) than Lampard’s team, it seems too ambitious a move by Everton to be going after Toney.

Hailed by Bees manager Thomas Frank as a player with the ‘[mindset of a lion](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/ivan-toney-thomas-frank-brentford-premier-league-b957010.html?amp)‘, it is no surprise to see top-flight heavyweights Chelsea and Man Utd wanting the 26-year-old too.

A [scorer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ivan-toney/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/251664/plus/0?saison=2022&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) at the weekend against Fulham, Toney already has [two goals and two assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ivan-toney/leistungsdaten/spieler/251664) to his name so far this term, and he has scored an impressive 141 times over the course of his senior club career so far ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ivan-toney/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/251664)).

It is no surprise to see the 26-year-old so high in demand, but Everton may have a mountain to climb if they are to secure his signature.
