# Manchester City certain to win Champions League

[![Manchester United v Manchester City - Barclays Premier League](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Pellegrini--500x314.jpg)](https://cdn.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Pellegrini-.jpg?admin)Even the most optimistic Manchester City fan in the Transfer Tavern raised an eyebrow here this afternoon, after some audacious claims from Citizens boss Manuel Pellegrini.

Despite being hounded 4-1 by Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend, and losing their opening European fixture to Juventus two weeks ago, the Chilean manager is bullish about his sides chances and is [quoted by *Goal* as stating his side is ‘destined’ to win the Champions League.](https://www.goal.com/en/news/1716/champions-league/2015/09/27/15775922/manchester-city-will-win-champions-league-pellegrini)

He pointed out that he has a young side at his disposal, which includes the likes of Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne, but it’s quite clear that last season’s runners-up in the Premier League are a way off challenging for European honours.

The champions of Germany and Spain are undoubtably superior to City, whilst Juventus’ victory two weeks ago suggests they are also more fancied- especially as they are the runners-up last term.

City can go far but winning the Champions League is a dream that is unlikely to be fulfilled this season- although stranger things have happened.
