# Manchester City: Cityzens set to sign Maximo Perrone

**[Manchester City](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/manchester-city-news/) are set to bring in Argentine midfielder Maximo Perrone, according to [Fabrizio Romano](https://twitter.com/fabrizioromano/status/1615661967976398848?s=46&t=QD6mz30buFQl1TNmDX2iuQ).**

### The Lowdown: Perrone profiled

Perrone is [primarily](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/maximo-perrone/profil/spieler/668547) a defensive midfielder but can also play further forward in a more central role if needed. The 20-year-old is left-footed and plies his trade with Argentina’s top-flight side CA Velez Sarsfield.

He has made [33](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/maximo-perrone/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/668547) senior appearances for his current employers, contributing to [five](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/maximo-perrone/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/668547) goals and is out of [contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/maximo-perrone/profil/spieler/668547) at the end of the calendar year.

### The Latest: Transfer update

Romano took to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/fabrizioromano/status/1615661967976398848?s=46&t=QD6mz30buFQl1TNmDX2iuQ) on Wednesday to share an update on Perrone and a proposed move to the Etihad.

The transfer expert said that City are ‘set to complete the signing’ of Perrone, with a move currently at contract stages. He added that the player will move to Manchester ‘after the Sudamericano Sub-20, as expected’.

### The Verdict: One for the future?

City have a successful history of bringing Argentine players to the club, with the likes of Pablo Zabaleta and Sergio Aguero both making over [300](https://www.transfermarkt.com/manchester-city/gastarbeiterDetails/verein/281/land_id/9) appearances in Manchester.

Nicolas Otamendi, Carlos Tevez and Martin Demichelis also made it into [three figures](https://www.transfermarkt.com/manchester-city/gastarbeiterDetails/verein/281/land_id/9) for City games played, with World Cup winner Julian Alvarez the [current](https://www.transfermarkt.com/manchester-city/gastarbeiterDetails/verein/281/land_id/9) Argentine star at the club.

Therefore, Perrone may be hoping to follow in the footsteps of his fellow countrymen, and it looks as if City have been extremely keen to secure his services after initially [failing](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/21061315/manchester-city-transfer-velez-sarsfield-perrone-guardiola/) in their first offer. He could well be a player for the future, though, especially due to his age and lack of first-team experience in his native country.
