# Manchester City: Fans agree with Virgil van Dijk’s claim about Sergio Aguero

**A number of Manchester City fans have given their approval to a claim made about Sergio Aguero – by a player from one of their Premier League rivals.**

As per [Football Daily](https://twitter.com/footballdaily/status/1259774952506564609) in a clip shared on Twitter via [@City\_Xtra](https://twitter.com/City_Xtra/status/1259777390500286465), Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk was asked by Jamie Redknapp to name the toughest opponent he has encountered in England, with the Dutchman replying that Aguero is the best striker he has faced in the Premier League.

Van Dijk’s high praise for the Manchester City forward reciprocates comments that Aguero made to Argentine media outlet El Chiringuito last week \[via [Goal.com](https://www.goal.com/en-ie/news/two-steps-from-van-dijk-are-50-for-me-aguero-hails-liverpool/84pwjlgsiqfq1vbt7etxwerbv)\], when the 31-year-old hailed the Liverpool man as “one of the best centre-backs in the world”.

The two players have strong claims to be among the foremost players in their respective positions in the Premier League. Aguero is the league’s [joint-third highest scorer this season with 16 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/premier-league/torschuetzenliste/wettbewerb/GB1/saison_id/2019) and the [fourth-highest scorer in the division’s history on 180 goals](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/goals?co=1&se=-1&co=1&cl=-1&iso=-1&po=-1?se=-1), while Van Dijk is the reigning [PFA Player of the Year](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48065752) and has been [ever-present](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/virgil-van-dijk/leistungsdaten/spieler/139208) in a Liverpool side with the [best defence in the league](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) this term.

> He’s not wrong. We all saw how Kane got pocketed by our own Mangala. Agüero is tough to mark out in a game.
