# Manchester City: Fans are excited to be linked with Bundesliga defender Dayot Upamecano

**RP Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano has been putting on a string of impressive displays for the Bundesliga outfit [over the last three seasons](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/327721/History/Dayot-Upamecano), with Manchester City taking notice (per [90 min](https://www.90min.com/posts/6498787-exclusive-man-city-consider-january-bid-for-rb-leipzig-defender-dayot-upamecano)) amid a worrying centre-back crisis.**

The Premier League champions have had to make do without star defender Aymeric Laporte [due to injury](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-city/sperrenundverletzungen/verein/281) so far this season and former captain Vincent Kompany [who departed in the summer](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/may/19/vincent-kompany-manchester-city-leaves-fa-cup), with both defensive stalwarts being the key centre-back partnership which guided City to a domestic treble last season.

As a result, supporters have called for manager Pep Guardiola to launch an assault on the January transfer market, as you can see below.
