# Manchester City: Fans are relieved to have missed out on Jesse Lingard as a youngster

**According to a report from [the Daily Mirror via City Xtra](https://twitter.com/city_xtra/status/1199455146733920257?s=21), it has been revealed that Manchester United star Jesse Lingard could’ve joined the Sky Blues as a youngster but instead opted for their cross-town rivals, prompting huge relief from sections of supporters.**

Lingard, who spoke candidly about the start of his playing career, was told he was given a choice between four top clubs over a potential move before joining United – with City, Liverpool, Everton and Crewe [being the array of options](https://twitter.com/city_xtra/status/1199455146733920257?s=21).

Thankfully, at least from a blue perspective, the Englishman chose Old Trafford – with superstars like David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva shining at Eastlands in Lingard’s preferred attacking-midfield role.

In an alternative universe, there are imaginably supporters who watch the 26-year-old in place of the star names listed above – but City supporters in this reality will be thanking their lucky stars he chose the Red Devils instead.

Responding to the news, fans roasted the prospect of Lingard at the Etihad – who has only [scored once in 2019](https://www.premierleague.com/players/4337/Jesse-Lingard/overview).
