# Manchester City: Fans dismiss Arsenal interest in Mikel Arteta as managerial candidate

**Former Arsenal cult hero, Mikel Arteta, who has been Pep Guardiola’s number two at Manchester City for the last three seasons, studying under his tutelage [during an era littered with trophies](https://www.mancity.com/fans%20and%20community/club/club%20history), could now be on his way back to the Emirates.**

[According to the Daily Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/unai-emery-given-month-save-20803671), current Gunners boss Unai Emery has been given a month to turn Arsenal’s form around and save his job following a season to forget so far.

The North London outfit have picked up just [two wins in their last seven games](https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1DVJR_enGB846GB846&sxsrf=ACYBGNTqhPOn4ph6FOr9Gk80HRw-kPmbQQ%3A1572870095195&ei=zxfAXerJC_HQxgO0tIWwCw&q=arsneal&oq=arsneal&gs_l=psy-ab.3..35i305i39l2j0i67l4j0i10l2j0i67j0i10.2713.3934..4175...1.1..0.99.572.7......0....1..gws-wiz.....10..0i71j35i362i39j35i39j0i131i67j0i131j0i20i263.-nS0uq4an0E&ved=0ahUKEwiq7bTaxdDlAhVxqHEKHTRaAbYQ4dUDCAs&uact=5#sie=t;/m/0xbm;2;/m/02_tc;mt;fp;1;;), including a [2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace](https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1DVJR_enGB846GB846&sxsrf=ACYBGNTqhPOn4ph6FOr9Gk80HRw-kPmbQQ%3A1572870095195&ei=zxfAXerJC_HQxgO0tIWwCw&q=arsneal&oq=arsneal&gs_l=psy-ab.3..35i305i39l2j0i67l4j0i10l2j0i67j0i10.2713.3934..4175...1.1..0.99.572.7......0....1..gws-wiz.....10..0i71j35i362i39j35i39j0i131i67j0i131j0i20i263.-nS0uq4an0E&ved=0ahUKEwiq7bTaxdDlAhVxqHEKHTRaAbYQ4dUDCAs&uact=5#sie=m;/g/11fls36gnk;2;/m/02_tc;dt;fp;1;;), putting real pressure on Emery heading into the Christmas period.

As a result, Arsenal are now [linked](https://www.football.london/arsenal-fc/news/arsenal-fan-pinpoints-quality-mikel-17200545) with City assistant manager Arteta with the north Londoners [reportedly](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/arsenal-identify-top-managerial-targets-20805995) eyeing both Arteta and Max Allegri to replace Emery – but Sky Blues supporters immediately dismissed the interest [in a series of tweets.](https://twitter.com/City_Xtra/status/1191079317050138624)

The main consensus behind the Spaniard’s perceived unlikelihood of joining Arsenal is the strong theory that Arteta is being groomed as Guardiola’s future replacement at the Etihad – prompting most fans to dismiss the links as nonsense.

Here’s how they reacted.
