# Manchester City: Fans divided over whether Yan Couto is a worthwhile signing

**Responding to insight from Manchester Evening News journalist [Simon Bajkowski](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-city-barcelona-news-couto-17888934), many Manchester City fans have been debating the merit of brand new signing Yan Couto – with one supporter hinting he could be a ‘[Walker replacement](https://twitter.com/jdiazm11/status/1237107275346653184?s=21)‘ whilst another suggested he will ‘[never get a sniff](https://twitter.com/lewisk_96/status/1237106543365099522?s=21)‘ of first team action.**

Couto, who signed for the Sky Blues at the beginning of March, choosing the Etihad Stadium over the Nou Camp according to [Bajkowski](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/man-city-barcelona-news-couto-17888934) is seen as a potential future starlet – with the 17-year-old Brazilian defender joining City from Coritiba. Nicknamed the ‘[new Dani Alves](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8038339/Manchester-City-pip-Arsenal-signing-Brazilian-starlet-Yan-Couto-agree-5m-deal.html)‘, as relayed by the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8038339/Manchester-City-pip-Arsenal-signing-Brazilian-starlet-Yan-Couto-agree-5m-deal.html), the teenage sensation could indeed become one to watch for the future at Eastlands – even despite Pep Guardiola’s squad seemingly looking stacked in terms of full-backs. The likes of Kyle Walker, Joao Cancelo, Benjamin Mendy and Oleksandr Zinchenko make up City’s current ranks, but if Couto is indeed the new Alves, Guardiola could have landed a real prospect.

Here’s how supporters debated the signing on Twitter.

> Will be 100% the Walker 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 replacement. He has speed and great technic. Will helps too much to the team. Really similar to Walker helping forward 😊

> Why do we constantly buy these players with high ceilings only for them to never get a sniff at the first team
