# Manchester City: Fans feel they miss Vincent Kompany after Manchester United defeat

**Manchester City fans have been left thinking what might have been as they believe that the team misses the presence of club legend Vincent Kompany.**

Pep Guardiola’s side fell to their fourth defeat of the season after losing [2-1](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50611309) to hated neighbours Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial meant that City were [14](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/table) points behind title rivals Liverpool in the Premier League table.

With Guardiola’s [backline](https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/man-city-defence-man-utd-17381815) not as strong as last season, fans believed that there is one man that could have benefitted them this season.

Former club captain Vincent Kompany was released by the club in the summer as he moved back to his boyhood club Anderlecht, where he is now the club captain and the player-manager.

The 33 year-old has been [described](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/fa-league-cups/vincent-kompany-manchester-city-arsenal-efl-cup-final-player-goal-rating-man-of-the-match-a8228171.html) as an “inspirational leader” as he led the blue half of Manchester to three Premier League titles.

Kompany featured on [360](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vincent-kompany/profil/spieler/9594#subnavi) occasions for City, scoring [20](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vincent-kompany/profil/spieler/9594#subnavi) goals and providing [11](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vincent-kompany/profil/spieler/9594#subnavi) assists in 11 years.

Supporters were left reflecting on what might have been had the Belgian opted to stay in Greater Manchester and made their feelings clear on social media.

Here you will find some of the best comments from Manchester City fans:

> Sorry to sound like a broken record, but Vincent Kompany. A leader, a motivator. The void.
