# Manchester City: Fans hail Fernandinho’s quotes surrounding new deal

**According to a report from ESPN Brasil,[translated by ESPN](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/soccer-transfers/story/4029301/manchester-citys-fernandinho-set-to-sign-new-deal), Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho looks all but set to sign a new deal at the Etihad Stadium – extending his current contract past the end of this season whilst [‘renewing it automatically’](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/soccer-transfers/story/4029301/manchester-citys-fernandinho-set-to-sign-new-deal) if he reaches certain goals.**

The Brazilian midfielder has been a key asset since signing from Shakhtar Donetsk in the [summer of 2013,](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/22778909) going on to make 296 appearances for the Sky Blues whilst scoring 23 goals and assisting 25 others from midfield in that time,[as per Transfermarkt.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fernandinho/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/26267)

Fernandinho, whilst arguably being crucial to three of City’s four Premier League title triumphs, also played a heavy hand in last season’s tense title race with Liverpool – notably putting in a [brilliant performance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPOdrn1cR0o) during their 2-1 home victory over the Reds last year.

He has also adapted fairly well to being [inserted into a centre-back role](https://www.mancity.com/news/first-team/first-team-news/2019/december/fernandinho-arsenal-interview) so far this campaign – making the most [blocks per Premier League on average](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/167/Show/England-Manchester-City) than anyone in the squad – resulting in supporters being overjoyed with the news that Fernandinho could extend his stay at the Etihad.

Here’s what they had to say.
