# Manchester City: Many fans hail Guardiola decision for Gundogan to take FA Cup penalty

**Manchester City’s 4-0 victory over Fulham started with a sending off and then a penalty which was scored by Ilkay Gundogan. The spot kick was tucked right into the bottom left corner, despite the goalkeeper picking the right way to dive.**

He took over penalty duties from Gabriel Jesus, who missed one last week against Sheffield United and has missed [three out his last five](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1231655/Man-City-news-penalty-miss-Sheffield-United-Ederson-Pep-Guardiola). For a striker of the quality of Sergio Aguero, he’s not got the best record either, having missed [12 of the 46](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sergio-aguero/elfmetertore/spieler/26399) he’s taken in his career. With both strikers not being penalty specialists, [Pep Guardiola noted](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1231655/Man-City-news-penalty-miss-Sheffield-United-Ederson-Pep-Guardiola) the team needs to “reflect” on who should take them.

Gundogan managed to keep up the German trend of being [great at penalties](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12023/11388401/germany-in-world-cup-penalty-shoot-outs-every-kick-in-history-analysed) as he slotted home the [ninth of his career and kept up his 100 per cent success rate](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ilkay-gundogan/elfmetertore/spieler/53622). When the club’s official account posted the news that he’d scored, many fans tweeted to hail the decision to let him take it instead of Jesus.

> 8\. GOAL! [@IlkayGuendogan](https://twitter.com/IlkayGuendogan?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) makes no mistake from the spot! Rolling it into the bottom corner! Lovely!
